Vanderbilt basketball head coach Jerry Stackhouse knows a thing or two about basketball, and it’s not just the mental aspect of the game either.
If you’re too young to remember, take a look at this list of accomplishments from Stackhouse:
Drafted third overall out of North Carolina by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1995 NBA Draft, Stackhouse had a 18-year NBA career in which he was a two-time All-Star and averaged 16.9 points per game. Five times averaged more than 20 points, topping out at 29.8 in 2000-01.
All that to say Stackhouse can fill up the net. Thus, when he was asked recently at SEC basketball media days if any other SEC coaches could beat him in a simple game of H-O-R-S-E, he was pretty confident in his answer.
“Probably not,” Stackhouse said with a laugh, according to 247Sports. “Maybe (Alabama coach) Nate Oats could shoot a little bit.”
Notably, Oats played basketball at Maranatha Baptist University in the mid-’90s, but Stackhouse is being all too nice even giving him a shot in this hypothetical contest.
Stackhouse has been the head coach at Vanderbilt for the past three seasons, where he’s amassed a subpar 39-54 record, but last season he seemed to have the Commodores on track with a 19-17 record.
