The former Rams and Falcons tailback had a short-lived career filled with both successes and injuries. In his first season in St. Louis, Gurley rushed for over 1000 yards, earning him Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. In 2017 and 2018, he got even better.
In his third year, Gurley rushed for 1305 yards and 13 touchdowns, being named Offensive Player of the Year in 2017. He then followed that up with 1251 yards and a career-high 17 touchdowns in 2018. For the last two seasons of his career, he still saw some success but was mostly held down by knee injuries that eventually led to his unofficial retirement.
Gurley spent the last week or so making his rounds, thanking former teammates and coaches all around the league. Why? Because as he showed during his career, the 28-year-old is a class act and believes that thank yous are something that is not done often enough in the NFL or sports as a whole.
“I just wanted to show gratitude man, because there’s a lot of guys on this earth, and especially as alpha males, we don’t show the love like we’re supposed to,” he said. “I just wanted to let those guys know that I appreciate them for everything that they’ve done for me, just at an inspirational level.”
