It’s near impossible to imagine the Golden State Warriors without Draymond Green. But could that be a possibility if they don’t pony up some dough?

According to The Athletic, the fiery power forward is looking for a max contract extension when he becomes eligible for one on August 3 — and he is willing to explore other teams if the Dubs don’t pay him.

Green has one year left on his current contract. A max extension would lock him in for five years at $164.2 million.

How do Green’s teammates feel about him wanting a max extension? Per The Athletic, Steph Curry is a big advocate for his long-time teammate getting every penny. The NBA Finals MVP, to no one’s surprise, sees himself, Green and Klay Thompson as a “package deal” and expects the Warriors to pay them as such.

While Golden State won the 2022 championship with the highest payroll in the league, they may not be as eager to spend money on Green just yet. Green is one of four core players from the championship team that is up for an extension and the Warriors are facing massive luxury tax implications over the next few years.

It will certainly be interesting to see what the Warriors decide to do — and whether Draymond Green’s days in the Bay Area are in fact numbered.
