As of the final Wednesday of July, the Cleveland Browns are still waiting to learn if starting quarterback Deshaun Watson will be suspended for part or all of the 2022 season over allegations of sexual misconduct during massage sessions.

Cleveland has been linked in rumors and reports with San Francisco 49ers veteran Jimmy Garoppolo, who has officially been replaced atop his team’s depth chart by 2021 rookie Trey Lance and is actively searching for a new football home. However, it appears the Browns are comfortable sticking with who is in their quarterback room at the moment.

Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters on Wednesday that backup Jacoby Brissett, signed by the club in late March, will start this fall in the event that Watson is made unavailable for any games. Stefanski added Watson and Brissett will get “a ton of reps” during training camp practices.

Cleveland also has journeyman Joshua Dobbs and the recently-acquired Josh Rosen on the roster competing for the No. 3 role. Watson, meanwhile, is working in training camp as he and his employer wait for a ruling from league disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson which could come at any time.
