Blackwall Tunnel closed as crash sparks long delays in rush hour

There is traffic chaos around the Blackwall Tunnel in London this morning following a crash that is adding to growing queues during the busy rush hour period. The A102 Blackwall Tunnel approach is partially blocked at Blackwall Lane because of a collision. This is now adding to queues from nearby Kidbrooke. BBC Radion London Travel tweeted: “A102 Blackwall Tunnel approach is part blocked northbound at Blackwall Lane, because of a collision, adding to the queues from Kidbrooke.”

The Jambuster traffic service said the third lane of three on the Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach (Northbound) at the junction of Blackwall Lane is blocked due to a collision.

Motorists have been warned that traffic queuing back to the Sun-in-the-sands roundabout and to expect delays.

Jambuster tweeted: “[A102] Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach (Northbound) at the junction of [A2203] Blackwall Lane – Lane three (of three) is blocked due to a collision.

“Use caution on the approach. Traffic is queuing from Sun-in-the-sands roundabout. Expect delays.”

Nearby, motorists have been warned there are lengthy delays on the A13 into London between Rainham and the Blackwall Tunnel.

BBC Radio London Travel tweeted: “#A13 is slow into London between Rainham and the Blackwall Tunnel, avoiding Dartford, which is taking around 45 minutes.”

In addition, the M4 heading into London had been reduced to one lane in a section between two junctions “due to ongoing works”, with queues of up to two miles building.

BBC Radio London Travel tweeted shortly before 7am: “The M4 heading into London is still down to one lane on the elevated section btwn J2 Brentford and J1 Chiswick Rbt for the ongoing works – it’s queueing for over 2 miles already.”
