Emergency services have rushed to a business unit in Greater Manchester after a large fire was reported on Tuesday morning.

A number of fire engines arrived at the scene in Altrincham, and local residents in the Altrincham area have been told to limit smoke exposure by keeping doors and windows closed.

Craven Road has been shut to motorists, with diversions in place.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue tweeted early on Tuesday: “Six fire engines are currently at the scene of a fire at a commercial premises on Craven Road, Altrincham.

“Residents nearby are advised to keep their windows and doors closed. Road closures are also in place, so please avoid the area if possible.”

One resident, @RachelJWorth1, posted an image to Twitter in which a smoke cloud appears across the top of a building, and could be mistaken for clouds.

She wrote: “Welcome to Tuesday in Altrincham. Sadly, not cloud.

“Massive fire raging in an industrial unit on the next business park over.”
