The Tennessee Titans are going to be able to run the ball on teams in the playoffs.
With All-Pro running back Derrick Henry at full speed and Dontrell Hilliard and rookie Hassan Haskins giving Henry sound depth, the Titans need to focus on their wide receiver room ahead of the trade deadline.
While veteran Robert Woods can serve as a capable top option, Tennessee’s wideout depth is sparse. Nick Westbrook-Ikhine is a fine second fiddle, if not a game changer, but the options after that are the inexperienced Cody Hollister and recent signing Chris Conley, veteran journeyman.
At tight end, the team is getting minimal contributions from Austin Hooper and Geoff Swaim as the top target — hardly among the elite pass-catching TEs in the league. Rookie Chigoziem Okonkwo only has 49 yards and a touchdown on the year to round out the TE room.
With rookie wideouts Treylon Burks and Kyle Philips and second-year man Racey McMath on injured reserve, the Titans need help for quarterback Ryan Tannehill, and fast.
Ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, the team has options to swing a deal, whether it’s a stellar talent like Denver wideout Jerry Jeudy or a tantalizing talent like Pittsburgh WR Chase Claypool.
The team could also look at a former star in Cardinals WR A.J. Green, a reliable veteran like Patriots wideout Kendrick Bourne or a nice depth piece in Saints WR Marquez Callaway (a former Tennessee Volunteer).
No matter who it is, the Titans need to make calls on a wideout. The team is gunning for an AFC South crown and playoff spot. However, the AFC is just too challenging for Tennessee not to exhaust its options to improve its receiving core sooner than later.
