The Baker Mayfield era in Cleveland has finally come to an end.
After months of trade discussions that seemingly were going nowhere, the Browns and the Carolina Panthers were finally able to come together on a deal on Wednesday. Mayfield takes his talents to Charlotte, while the Browns receive a conditional fifth-round draft selection in return. They will also cover a good chunk of Mayfield’s 2022 salary. Cleveland now moves forward with Deshaun Watson and Jacoby Brissett, while Carolina “envisions” a QB camp battle between Mayfield and incumbent Sam Darnold. Seattle, the other long-rumored Mayfield destination, is seemingly content with its QB combo of Drew Lock and Geno Smith, despite the best efforts of the person running the U.S. Open Twitter account. Fans of the other 29 franchises are simply happy that their teams did not get involved in this shuffling of the deck chairs on the Titanic.
