The Chicago Blackhawks had a record of 28-42-12 this season, finishing near the bottom of the NHL standings.

The Blackhawks ended the year with a losing record for the second consecutive season and missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the fourth time in the last five seasons.

Squarely in rebuild mode, the Blackhawks may be looking to deal off assets to help jumpstart it. One name that could be on the move is 24-year-old all-star Alex DeBrincat.

According to The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun, the Blackhawks are having “ongoing discussions” with teams about a possible deal for DeBrincat.

LeBrun adds that there’s no guarantee that DeBrincat will be traded, but if a deal were to take place, the Blackhawks would be looking for young NHL players, top prospects, and high draft picks in return.

“It would take a serious haul if they decide to make that move,” LeBrun wrote. “He’s got one year left on his contract at a $6.4M AAV and then next summer he’s RFA with salary arbitration rights. So part of what teams are trying to figure out within their pursuit of DeBrincat is what that next contract looks like. This might scare off a team or two, but overall my sense is the interest is pretty significant nonetheless.”

DeBrincat received his first all-star nod this season, scoring 41 goals to tie a career-high while posting a career-best 37 assists playing in all 82 games.

In five seasons in Chicago, DeBrincat has compiled 160 goals and 147 assists for 307 points in 358 career NHL games.
