Jed Duggar and Katey Nakatsu are new parents.
The couple just welcomed their first child last month, but unlike the Duggars of the past, they’re not bombarding their followers with adorable baby pics.
Like the rest of the family, Jed and Katey are keeping a much lower profile these days.
The main reason for that, of course, is that Josh Duggar’s arrest on child pornography charges incinerated the last shreds of the family’s wholesome reputation.
But Jed and Katey might have other reasons for steering clear of the spotlight, as well.
Because if their latest social media activity is any indication, these two have a lot to learn when it comes to parenting!
Truett “True” Oliver Duggar was born May 2, and according to their YouTube page, Jed and Katey had some family and friends over for a belated birthday party this week.
Jed manned the grill, and for some reason, he decided to seat his infant son directly beneath the flame- and hot grease-spewing contraption.
On Reddit, commenters were quick to take notice, and not surprisingly, Jed and Katey were rather harshly criticized.
“Y’all, why do they have this baby sitting under a grill?” one user asked.
“Also the baby is almost touching/is dangerously close to the propane tank,” another person wrote, adding:
“Jed is also leaning over the baby to reach the grill. Anybody who was around them that day clearly lacks common sense for them not to correct where the baby is.”
Yes, you don’t need to be Hank Hill to know that that’s not proper propane safety!
In the past, Duggar parents have been criticized for everything from living too close to a highway to making their kids walk too far for Chick-Fil-A.
Often, the criticism is over-blown “concern trolling,” in which commenters pretend to be worried about the kids just so they have an excuse to blast the parents.
In this case, however, the critics have a very valid point.
It wouldn’t be safe for older kids to run around that close to a hot grill.
And it’s certainly not safe for a baby to be seated directly beneath one.
Thankfully, in later scenes from Jed and Katey’s YouTube video, the kid has been moved to a safer location.
So did Jed and Katey come to their senses, or did someone point out to them that putting a baby beneath a grill is a really, really bad idea?
Whatever the case, it seems that these newlyweds have a whole lot to learn in the parenting department.
Unfortunately, they might not have anyone in their lives who can teach them the basics!
It goes without saying that Jed’s parents are useless in that regard.
(After all, their eldest child grew up to be a serial sex offender.)
We don’t know a whole lot about Katey’s folks — but they allowed her to marry into the freakin’ Duggar family, so maybe they’re not all that great themselves!
It’s good that online sleuths are keeping an eye on baby True.
That kid’s gonna need all the help he can get!
