A huge fire has hit a block of flats in Bristol in what has been described as a “major incident”. Firefighters have raced to the scene the deal with the blaze.
The Avon Fire and Rescue Service received its first call at just past 6am this morning.
Images shared online show a good number of fire engines present at the scene.
Police and the ambulance have also attended to help manage the situation.
Locals have been told to avoid the area while the flames are being handled.
The fire service said in a statement: “We are currently responding to a fire on Aiken Street, St Philips, Bristol.
“Our control team received their first call at 6.08am and have taken a large volume of 999 calls since.
“Please avoid the area as our crews work and be assured we are on the scene.”
The incident has also impacted traffic in the local area.

Mr Booth said: “There is a major incident this morning in Barton Hill.
“Fire, police and ambulance on the scene and residents evacuated.”
The fire service said that fire engines from six stations were in attendance at the scene.
At just before 8.40am, it reported: “Fire engines from Temple Fire Station, Hicks Gate Fire Station, Bedminster Fire Station, Kingswood Fire Station, Southmead Fire Station and Portishead Fire Station are currently in attendance.”
