James Ford, 31, was found guilty of 10 counts of sexual abuse against the same child and of perverting the course of justice over his mobile.

Ford, of Bishop’s Stortford, was suspended by Hertfordshire Police as an intervention officer in November last year. The offences happened between 2019 and 2021.

Mr Justice Simon Bryan at Cambridge Crown Court remanded Ford in custody and said he was “going to have a lengthy custodial sentence”. He will be sentenced on Friday.

Specialist officers from Cambridgeshire Police who investigated, paid tribute to the “courage and bravery” of the child in the case.

Hertfordshire Assistant Chief Constable Genna Telfer said that she was “disgusted” by Ford’s actions, adding: “He will face a fast-track hearing for dismissal.”
