The winners of the 2022 HCD 10 awards program from Healthcare Design magazine have been finalized.
Each year, the editorial team reviews dozens of submissions to the competition, which honors standouts across 10 professional categories. The mission of The HCD 10 is to recognize and celebrate the broad spectrum of outstanding professionals in our industry and the influence they have on healthcare design.
Specifically, the program recognizes accomplishments over the 12 months prior to the nomination period (spring 2022), with a focus on how individuals/organizations contributed to projects and initiatives for the better.
This year, the program spotlights achievements across its 10 categories, including the new category of Industry MVP, where three individuals are named.
The 2022 HCD 10
Architect—Angela Mazzi, principal, GBBN, Cincinnati
Interior Designer—Alda Ly, founder and principal, Alda Ly Architecture (ALA), New York
Owner—Dave Kistel, vice president, facilities and support services, Lee Health Inc., Cape Coral, Fla.
Clinician—Dr. Scott Boden, professor and chair, department of orthopedics, Emory University School of Medicine; director, Emory Musculoskeletal Institute, Atlanta
Facility Manager—Mike McKay, director, planning, design, and construction, University of Wisconsin Health, Middleton, Wis.
Building Professional—Kimberly Cowman, vice president, national director of engineering, Leo A Daly, Omaha, Neb.
Educator—Sara Bayramzadeh, coordinator and Elliot Professor, Kent State University, Kent, Ohio
Researcher—Deborah Wingler, associate director of applied research, principal, HKS Inc., Dallas
Industry MVPs—Taft Cleveland, senior architectural designer, associate, SmithGroup, Chicago; Esperanza Harper, senior healthcare planner, associate, LS3P, Raleigh, N.C.; and Tammy Thompson, president, Institute for Patient-Centered Design and director, experience, engagement, education, and design, ECU Health, Greenville, N.C.

Coverage of the winners and their contributions to the industry will appear in the September issue of Healthcare Design and online.
The 2022 HCD 10 will be celebrated in person during an awards gala at the upcoming HCD Forum to take place Sept. 7-9 in Napa, Calif., as well as during the magazine’s awards luncheon to be held during the Healthcare Design Conference + Expo scheduled Oct. 8-11 in San Antonio.
