Following an accomplished 16-year NFL career, running back Frank Gore officially hung up his cleats in April after signing a one-day contract with his original team — the San Francisco 49ers. The five-time Pro Bowler is back in the news this week.

According to a report from The Athletic, police said in a news release that authorities were dispatched to the Tropicana Atlantic City on the morning of July 31, where they found a 28-year-old woman speaking with hotel security.

“The victim did not exhibit signs of injury and complaints were not filed at the time,” police said. “However, an ensuing investigation resulted in Franklin Gore being charged with simple assault related to the domestic violence incident.”

Upon his spring retirement, it was reported that Gore was hoping that he could take a position in the 49ers’ front office. The 39-year-old played the first 10 seasons of his NFL career with San Francisco, before finishing it with stops with the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets.

Gore is third on the league’s all-time leading rushers list with 16,000 yards, trailing only Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton.
