A 10-year-old girl in Orlando has been charged with murder after she allegedly shot and killed a woman in the head who was involved in a fight with her mother, and then yelled, ‘you shouldn’t have messed with my mother.’
The child, who has not been named, was arrested on Tuesday more than a week after authorities said she fatally shot Lashun Rodgers, 41, on Memorial Day.
Orlando Police said the girl’s mother, Lakrisha Isaac, 31, and Lashun Denise Rodgers, 41, got into an argument that led to a physical fight outside the Jernigan Gardens Apartments in Orlando, Florida last week.
The mother handed her daughter a bag that contained a gun and the girl took the gun out and fired two rounds, striking Rodgers, according to police. Rodgers fell to the ground with a ‘gunshot wound to the head,’ police said.
Police told WESH that the girl allegedly yelled, ‘you shouldn’t have messed with my mother’ after she fired the shot.
Rodgers was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead, police said.

The Orlando Police Department said the girl is facing a charge of second-degree murder. She was taken into custody and placed with a local Juvenile Justice Center.
The girl’s mother was arrested last week on charges of manslaughter by culpable negligence, child neglect, negligent storage of a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm, police said.
Online records show that the mother was appointed an attorney from the public defender’s office but no further details were provided.
Family and friends gathered outside the apartment complex in Orlando on Tuesday to grieve the victim.
‘I can’t reiterate it enough, that was an awesome woman,’ the victim’s best friend Stacey Johnson told WESH. ‘I can’t say nothing bad about her. Her humor, and her spirit. Oh my god. her spirit was awesome.’
‘It’s just so sad that she lost her life to this senseless situation,’ said Amber Dozier. ‘She didn’t deserve it at all. She’s not that type of person, and she don’t get in this type of stuff.’

Orlando Commissioner Regina Hill said state and federal lawmakers need to take action, and added that she is starting a new program in Orlando. She added that Rodgers was an involved parent and often volunteered for school programs.
‘I know multiple constituents who personally knew both the young girl and (Rodgers),’ Hill said. ‘And everyone’s heart is broken.’
‘We were able to receive almost $2 million+ to start a Violence Interrupted program that specifically addresses mental health and gun violence,’ she said.
State Attorney Monique Worrell called the case one of the most tragic she’s ever seen.
‘Our office has started the process of reviewing this case and will consider all of the facts, including the age of the child, and all of the surrounding circumstances, when making a charging decision,’ a statement read from Worrell’s office.
‘We want to be clear in stating that no charging decision has been made by our office. However, we anticipate that whatever charges we eventually file, if any, will ensure she receives the interventions necessary to address her behavior, help her change and grow, and ensure the public’s safety going forward. We encourage the public to remember—no matter your feelings surrounding this tragedy—this is still a child.’
