Busy Philipps was one of 181 people arrested during an abortion rights protest outside the US Supreme Court.
The Cougar Town star was seen wearing a shirt reading ‘I will aid and abet abortion,’ while being led away by a pair of police officers on Thursday, in a video posted by Vice News.
Philipps, 43, was arrested for blocking traffic outside the court building alongside number of Planned Parenthood leaders.
She told reporters that she was protesting ”For equality’. As she was cuffed and led away, members of the crowd could be heard cheering her on and saying ‘Thank you for your service.’

When asked by a reporter why she came out to be arrested, Philipps responded ‘For equality’
Philipps wrote about the protest in a lengthy Instagram post in which she shared photos and videos of her arrest.
‘I can think of no better way to use my privilege and voice than to amplify the message that bodily autonomy IS a human right,’ she wrote, ‘as it is ACTUALLY the exact same thing as the promise of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.’
Philipps described the protest as ‘an action of peaceful civil disobedience,’ saying the intention was ‘to let lawmakers but more importantly, the people who will be most impacted by this outrageous decision, know that we will not back down, we will not give in and we will not stop fighting until there is equality for all Americans.’
In addition to Planned Parenthood leadership, Philipps was joined by members from a number of groups, including Catholic’s for Choice, the Working Family’s Party, The National Council of Jewish Women, and the Center For Popular Democracy Action, according to her post.

Philipps has been open about her own experience receiving an abortion at the age of 15.
‘I had an abortion when I was 15 years old and I’m telling you this because I’m genuinely really scared for women and girls all over the country,’ she said in 2019 episode of her talk show, Busy Tonight.
Speaking on her Instagram story on Thursday, Philipps said: ‘I’m doing this for you guys. I’m doing this for my kids, I’m doing this for my mom, I’m doing this for my grandma.’
Philipps was also arrested alongside Orange is the New Black star Alysia Reiner, according to People Magazine, and Rep. Judy Chu.
Chu, a California Democrat, authored the Women’s Health Protection Act, the House-passed bill that would have codified abortion rights. Members of the Senate, even Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin, said the bill was too far-reaching.

Philipp’s arrest comes as President Biden vowed to fight for abortion laws, while saying that the US Supreme court was ‘destabilizing’ America with its ‘outrageous’ ruling.
Speaking to reporters at the end of a NATO summit in Madrid, Spain, he condemned the ruling and its impact.
‘America is better positioned to lead the world than we ever have been,’ he said.
‘But one thing that has been destabilizing is the outrageous behavior of the Supreme Court of United States in overruling not only Roe v. Wade, but essentially challenging the right to privacy.’
And he said he would support a carve-out so that Democrats in Congress could pass laws to protect abortion rights, even without 60 votes in the Senate.
‘The first and foremost thing we should do, is make it clear how outrageous this decision was and how much it impacts – not just on a woman’s right to choose, which is a critical, critical piece – but on privacy generally,’ Biden said.
‘And so I’m going to be talking to the governors as to what actions they think I should be taking as well.’

He added that the ‘most important thing’ was his belief that the protections granted in Roe v. Wade should be codified into law.
‘The way to do that is to make sure that Congress votes to do that,’ the president said.
‘And if the filibuster gets in the way, it’s like voting rights, it should be we provide an exception for this.’
But some Democratic senators, including Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, remain steadfast in their defense of the filibuster, their offices said, despite the pressure from Biden and the public.
Manchin’s office told DailyMail.com that the West Virginia Democrat’s position had not changed in light of the president’s new comments, and Sinema’s office referred DailyMail.com to a statement the Arizona Democrat made after the leaked Supreme Court decision: ‘Protections in the Senate safeguarding against the erosion of women’s access to health care have been used half-a-dozen times in the past ten years, and are more important now than ever.’
