Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt made it clear on multiple occasions this month that he’d like to stay with the club beyond the 2022 season and put pen to paper on an extension ahead of playing out the final year of his contract.

Of course, Hunt isn’t the only Cleveland player with a future in question on the final day of June.

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is, as of Thursday afternoon, on day three of his hearing in front of league disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson that may ultimately result in the signal-caller being suspended for part or all of the upcoming campaign regarding allegations of sexual misconduct during massage sessions. If Watson is made ineligible, backup journeyman Jacoby Brissett will become Cleveland’s temporary starter.

During comments made on Wednesday, Hunt admitted the team and coaching staff are somewhat up against it not knowing their QB1 situation less than a month before training camp sessions open.

“Yeah, it’s definitely stressful for them,” Hunt remarked, per Ashley Bastock of Cleveland.com. “It’s tough because they’re trying to figure out what pieces they’ve got for the season and what plays they want to put it. You know, there’s different plays for Deshaun and Jacoby, different playbook, different things we can do at quarterback.”

As of the posting of this piece, there remained no known timeline for when Watson’s hearing may end or for when any ruling may be announced. The Browns hope to have a definitive answer about the 26-year-old’s status for the 2022 season before veterans report to training camp on July 26.
