Two weeks after a jury reached a verdict in Johnny Depp’s defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife — awarding the actor millions of dollars because members agreed Amber Heard harmed his reputation by implying Depp assaulted her back in the day — Heard has come out with a startling admission:
She has no hard feelings against Depp.
Quite the opposite, in fact.
“I love him. I loved him with all my heart,” Heard told Today Show co-host Savannah Guthrie a few days ago when asked about her feelings for Depp after the trial.
“I have no bad feelings or ill will toward him at all.”
Snippets of Heard’s sit-down with Guthrie have been airing at various times throughout the week on NBC.
At one point, the star went on to say she tried to “make a deeply broken relationship work,” but it was simply impossible.
“I have no bad feelings or ill will towards him at all,” Heard added.
“I know that might be hard to understand or it might be really easy to understand if you’ve just ever loved anyone.”
For those who watched or kept track of the trial, this might definitely be hard to comprehend.
At different junctures, Depp trashed Heard as a liar and an abuser, detailing the supposed ways she assaulted him during their marriage — and even claiming that Heard once popped in his bed.
In part one of the interview which aired Tuesday, Heard said she believed the “vast majority of this trial was played out on social media” and spoke of the vitriol directed at her by supporters of Depp, as well as social media users in general.
The actress honed in on the public perception about her in the segment that aired Wednesday, after Gutherie asked Heard about a text in which Depp promised “total global humiliation” for her.
“I’m not a good victim, I get it,” Heard said, acknowledging her role in what was a VERY toxic relationship.
“I’m not a likeable victim, I’m not a perfect victim. But when I testified I asked the jury to see me and hear his own words, which is a promise to do this.”
Heard filed for divorce from Depp in 2016 and then asked for a restraining order, alleging domestic violence.
In 2018, she wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post about surviving domestic abuse — but did not cite Depp by name.
Months later, Depp filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Heard, claiming her allegations were untrue and the op-ed harmed his career.
During the six-week trial this spring, Depp testified that he never abused Heard… and accused her of being the abusive one in their romance.
In the end, the Virginia jury awarded Depp $10.4 million, although Heard plans to appeal the verdict.
Heard told Guthrie she hopes she can get back to her life now that the trial is over.
“I get to be a mom full-time, where I’m not having to juggle calls with lawyers,” she said, adding that she is concerned Depp will continue to file lawsuits against her in the future.
“I’m scared that no matter what I do, no matter what I say or how I say it, every step that I take will present another opportunity for this sort of silencing.
“Which is what I guess a defamation lawsuit is meant to do – to take your voice.”
