New San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has confirmed he wants to make his club and home debuts in Sunday’s game against the 4-2 Kansas City Chiefs even though he only officially joined the 3-3 Niners on Friday.

“You can process a lot in two days, and figure out a lot in a short amount of time, and hopefully be ready to go,” McCaffrey explained about his wishes while speaking with reporters during his first media session as a San Francisco player, per David Bonilla of 49ers WebZone. “… It’s just my job to learn as much as humanly possible in the next two days and get ready to play a football game.”

He added: “I’m trying to get the playbook down. That’s the only thing I’m focused on. Going to help this team win a lot of football games, hopefully. That’s where my mind is.”

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan teased during a Friday morning radio appearance that McCaffrey could feature in a limited role for Sunday’s matchup but noted at that time that he knows “for sure” the 26-year-old will be in the lineup when San Francisco plays at the Los Angeles Rams on Oct. 30. General manager John Lynch later let it be known McCaffrey’s availability against the Chiefs will be decided by Shanahan and members of the coaching staff.

“In my opinion, the best run game and one of the most explosive offenses in the league,” McCaffrey said about playing in Shanahan’s system that allowed Deebo Samuel to become an All-Pro offensive dual-threat. “I think you just go down the roster, and you look at all the guys — I think that’s the thing I’m most excited about, just getting in the locker room, getting to meet the guys. But how could you not want to play here as an offensive weapon?”
