The display name is the name that acts as an identifier whenever you receive an email, the name that appears next to your email address (username).

Changing Gmail Name on PC
While using the web version of Gmail on your PC, you can change the display name quite easily by following the steps given below.
1. Sign in to your Gmail account using a web browser on your PC.
2. Click on the settings icon in the top right corner.
3. Now, click on see all settings.
4. From here, move to the Account and Import tab.
5. Here, click on Send mail as section and then click on the Edit info option.
6. Now, you can either select the name specified in your Google Account or type in a different name.
7. Once done, click on the Save Changes button.
Changing Gmail Name on Phone
Although, there is no direct option to change your display name on the Gmail app, however, there’s a workaround to change the display name using your phone’s browser. Let’s see how.
1. Open the browser on your phone and tap on the three vertical dots at the top right corner of the page.
2. From the pop-up menu, tick the checkbox for the Desktop site option.
3. In a few seconds you will be presented with the desktop mode of the page, now search for Gmail, it would appear like the picture given below. Now, open the Gmail weblink.
4. Once you are logged into your Gmail account, tap on the settings icon at the top right corner of the page.
5. From the pop-up menu, tap the See all settings option.
6. Now, switch to the Accounts and Imports tab.
7. Here, tap the ‘Send mail as’ option and then tap on edit info.
8. On the next screen, you can either choose your Google Account name or specify a different name. For example, here I am reversing my name.
9. After typing the new name, tap on the Save Changes button, to change to display name.
Change Google Account Name
Another way to change the display name on Gmail is via changing the name of your Google Account. This will change the name across all the Google services like Google Meet, Play Store, and Gmail. It can be done from PC and phone as shown below.

While you are using your Google account on PC you can change the name for all your accounts associated with your Google account by following the steps given below
1. Log into your Gmail account on your PC and click the profile picture icon on the top right.
2. Now, click on the Manage your accounts button.
3. Under the Personal info tab, you can notice the new account name, changed in the previous steps.
4. You can click on the name field to edit and type in your First Name and Last Name. Finally, click the Save button to change your name across all Google services.
Tip: You can check your Google name, by hovering your mouse over the Google account picture in Gmail at the top right corner. Your new name and email ID will pop up.
Changing Google Account Name on Phone
You can effortlessly change your Gmail name by changing the name of your Google Account on Android by following the steps below:
1. Go to Settings on your phone, and tap on Accounts.
2. Now, tap on the Manage Accounts option.
3. Select the account you want to change the name for.
4. Now, on the next screen tap on Google Account.
5. On the next screen, tap on the Personal info tab from the top.
6. Now, scroll down and tap on Name.
7. Finally, tap the Edit icon next to your name.
8. Now, add the new name and tap the Save button.
