The quarterback situation in San Francisco has been well-documented for the last year-and-a-half. It will soon be Trey Lance‘s show. Nobody knows when exactly, though. But with Baker Mayfield moving to Carolina, that leaves one more quarterback domino to fall: Jimmy Garoppolo.

So, who is the most likely suitor for the 30-year old? That is the question everyone is asking. Would GM John Lynch trade him just anywhere, even to a team within the NFC West? It is time to find out.

Believe it or not, the most likely destination for Jimmy G is an old rival: the Seattle Seahawks. Now, would Lynch trade his quarterback to an arch-rival? That is another big question. But it makes sense for both sides. The 49ers let Trey Lance run the show without any questions or distractions. Seattle would get a veteran quarterback with Super Bowl experience. Also, keep in mind that Seattle’s offense is ready to roll despite Russell Wilson’s departure. Receivers D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are a Pro Bowl tandem. Their running game is very solid, with 1,000-yard man Chris Carson and rookie Kenneth Walker. The defense is a little inconsistent, but they do have a Pro Bowl duo of safeties on the back end with Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs. Seattle still has a better roster than people think. Pete Carroll’s team would greatly benefit from bringing in Garoppolo to be the lead signal-caller.

Again, it is very rare when division rivals strike terms on a deal on a trade for a player. But this makes the most sense. San Francisco’s quarterback room can breathe a little easier. Seattle gets an experienced veteran, who could also push quarterbacks Drew Lock and Geno Smith. It is a win-win for both sides even if they play each other twice a year.
