Trump hires a new law firm to handle his January 6 subpoena – after reports suggested committee members were struggling to find someone who was authorized to handle it

Former President Donald Trump has hired yet another law firm following the House January 6 Committee’s vote to subpoena him – following a report that the panel was having trouble serving his bevy of existing counselors.

Trump has engaged the Dhillon Law Group, a firm that has represented fired National Security Advisor Mike Flynn, Sebastian Ghorka, and others in Trump’s circle, Politico reported.

The firm is headed by Harmeet Dhillon, who has appeared on Fox News as a commentator and who filed several lawsuits against coronavirus stay-home orders.

The news came hours after it was revealed that the House January 6 Committee, which voted to subpoena Trump at the dramatic conclusion of its public hearing last week, had yet to serve him with legal papers.

That came in part because the committee investigators were still trying to locate ‘someone authorized to accept service of it,’ ABC News reported, citing sources familiar with the situation.

Trump has a bevy of lawyers representing him an extraordinary array of legal fights. But ‘multiple lawyers’ representing him said they were not able to accept service papers on his behalf.

This would not have been a difficult week to track down the former president. He provided a deposition in the defamation lawsuit filed by E Jean Carroll, who accuses Trump of raping her inside a Manhattan department store in the 1990s. Trump denied the allegations and said she is ‘not my type.’

The clock is ticking on the January 6 panel’s mandate. It was created by a vote of the Democratic-controlled House, but House Republicans have vowed to end it.

Trump is being represented in the DOJ’s investigation of alleged mishandling and removal of government documents at Mar-a-Lago by attorneys that have included Chris Kis, Evan Corcoran, and Christina Bobb, although Bobb met with the FBI and answered questions about the attestation she signed saying a ‘diligent search’ had been performed subject to a subpoena in that probe.

Although the committee vote has occurred, the committee has not yet technically issued it. That came as the panel searched for the person who would represent Trump in the matter.

Panel member Liz Cheney said at an event at Harvard University that the panel would subpoena Trump ‘shortly.’

Trump issued an angry 14-page response to the committee’s vote, where he did not state whether he would appear in response to a subpoena.

‘This memo is being written to express our anger, disappointment, and complaint that with all of the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on what many consider to be a Charade and Witch Hunt, and despite strong and powerful requests, you have not spent even a short moment on examining the massive Election Fraud that took place during the 2020 Presidential Election, and have targeted only those who were, as concerned American Citizens, protesting the Fraud itself,’ he wrote.
