Wendy Williams is about to sign off the air.

Although Wendy Williams herself will not be doing so.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for The Wendy Williams Show confirmed to Variety that this program will officially go off the air in just a few days… on June 17, 2022.

In an unusual twist, however, the host herself will not be on hand to say goodbye.

Due to ongoing health problems, Williams has been sidelined all season long — and insiders say she won’t return for the upcoming finale.

“The final original episode of The Wendy Williams Show will air on Friday, June 17th with a video tribute to the iconic host.

“The series comes to an end after 13 successful years in syndication,” the aforementioned spokesperson said in a statement.

Without Williams in her iconic purple chair, the talk show has been airing for months with a multitude of guest hosts and panelists, including Sherri Shepherd, who will be front and center this final week and on the final episode.

Wendy Williams had a strong run as host of her own talk show. Alas, it has now come to an end.

Shepherd has held this role for awhile, and will be given her own program in Wendy’s spot after this Friday’s series conclusion.

In October 2021 — just ahead of the talk show’s 13th season premiere — Williams’ breakthrough COVID-19 case and her ongoing health issues tied to Graves’ disease delayed its initial return.

“Her healing is going slower than everyone had hoped,” a source told People Magazine around this time, adding:

“She continues to deal with a number of medical issues, including Graves’ disease, and she and her team are taking it one day at a time.”

There’s also been talk of late that Williams suffers from a number of mental health-related issues.

In November, there was speculation that Wendy had been diagnosed with dementia and was even unable to walk.

“Word on the street is Wendy is confined to a wheelchair,” Antoine Edwards said late last year on The Ricky Smiley Morning Show.

“According to a report, she has lost all blood circulation in her legs and in her feet.”

On March 17, however, Wendy Williams called in to speak about her health issues, autonomy over her finances and her career with Good Morning America.

Williams emphasized at the time that she is absolutely of “sound mind” and added:

“I have the mind and body of a 25-year-old.”

She went on during this call to accuse Wells Fargo of barring her “from accessing several million dollars.”

While Williams has denied talk of any declining mental sharpness, she has admitted to incessant physical disabilities.

“It came from me neglecting my six month endocrinology appointment,” she told People in 2018.

“I have Graves’ disease and hyperthyroid. If you have one you don’t necessarily have to have the other, but I have both, and I was diagnosed with both 19 years ago.”

Williams has also been candid about an alcohol and drug problem, with rumors that she fell off the wagon after filing for divorce from husband of 22 years, Kevin Hunter, who fathered a child with his mistress.

Wendy Williams Says Dumb Stuff

In general, though, Williams has said in various interviews that she plans to return to television at some point.

Speaking to Variety last month, the co-presidents of production company Debmar-Mercury, Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus, addressed the situation with Williams for the first time, saying they’d like to work with the host down the line.

“We will put it together and figure it out, Bernstein said.

“We do have the desire to be in business with her, if she can come back and be healthy, and so does Fox.”

Added Marcus, referring to The Wendy Williams Show cancelation:

“Other than her health, she could have continued to keep doing it as long as she wanted.

“She was still getting a rating and she has a die-hard audience that turned it into a profitable show.

“We were protecting the business, while we waited for her. And at some point, we had to say, ‘We have a business to run and she’s not here.’

“It was a hard call.”
