On Thursday, the Ottawa Senators announced an agreement with forward Josh Norris on an eight-year, $63.9 million contract extension.

Norris’ eight-year extension carries a $7.95 AAV.

Norris, 23, had a breakout campaign for Ottawa in 2021-22. In his first full season with the Senators, Norris finished first on the team in goals (35) and third in points (55).

A first-round pick by the Senators in 2017, Norris made his NHL debut in 2020 but failed to register a point in three games. He played 56 games for Ottawa in 2020-21, recording 35 points (17 goals, 18 assists).

“We’re very pleased to come to a long-term agreement with Josh,” general manager Pierre Dorion said via the Senators’ press release on Thursday. “He’s a versatile forward who continues to mature into an exceptional NHL player. His scoring prowess has already shown to be a considerable asset for us and one that will help us reach the next level. His dedication and the pride he takes in his physical conditioning will serve as a great example for our next wave of young players.”

Norris’ extension is one of several high-profile moves the Senators have made this offseason. On July 7, they acquired forward Alex DeBrincat from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks. When free agency opened on Wednesday, the Senators inked former Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux to a three-year, $19.5 million contract.
