She doesn’t talk about her many trials and tribulations very often, so it’s easy to forget that Selena Gomez has been through a lot.
In 2017, Gomez underwent a kidney transplant.
She withdrew from public life for several months as a result of the procedure, and many wondered if she would generally keep a lower profile from there on out.
Instead, Selena has done the opposite and welcomed fans into her life like never before.
Far more than just a singer and actress, Selena has recently emerged as a full-blown lifestyle guru.
Her HBO Max cooking show revealed a side that fans had never seen before, and she continues to express herself through her love of fashion and modeling.
Selena was always a unique presence on camera, and in recent years, she’s been able to send a positive message of resilience without speaking a single word.
Selena first bared her transplant scar in a swimsuit photo that was posted to her Instagram page in 2020.
Now, she’s paying it forward by modeling swimwear once again, this time in an effort to promote a new line launched by her friend and former assistant Theresa Mingus.
Mingus is CEO of La’Mariette, the brand that made the swimsuit in which Selena showed off her scar for the first time.
Gomez’s latest bikini pic appeared on La’Mariette’s Instagram page over the weekend.
And the image quickly became the brand’s most popular post to date.
Fittingly, it was Mingus who took the photo in which Selena boldly flaunted her scar in a one-piece.
“Oh, it felt so good,” Mingus said, recalling that earlier shoot in a recent in a recent interview.
“It’s funny because I actually took the picture. She knew exactly what she wanted to do. And that was the first picture that I took of her. I took 10, and that was the very first one. She was like, ‘that’s it.’”
“She was like, ‘I want to talk about my scar. I want it to be natural. I want it to be organic,’” Mingus continued.
“And that was the suit she wanted to wear. We were on set for her all day, and then she whispered to me, ‘Hey, I think after this, we should go home and do a little photo shoot.’
“And I was like, ‘okay, fine with me.’ She’s just so supportive.”
Mingus says Selena directly inspired the bikini line for which she’s now modeling.
“We [Selena and I] were vintage shopping and we found all these cool suits. She was like, ‘You need to do a suit like this or a pattern like this,” the designer recalled.
“And then we had a really good day on a boat. It was super fun, but that had always been at the back of my mind. I didn’t want to do it [then]; the timing wasn’t right. I knew it would just be so good if we did it the right way.”
So yeah, it sounds like being Selena Gomez’s assistant is every bit as cool as it sounds.
And as a bonus your former boss will use her clout to support your next endeavor!
