Shocking surveillance camera footage captured the moment a grandfather shot dead his grandson – allegedly over a debt.

Domingo Verna, 77, fired five shots at Brian Verna, 29, while standing behind the entrance door to his residence in the Argentine port city of Bahía Blanca on Monday afternoon.

An autopsy report showed Brian Serna was shot in the abdomen, chest, neck, cheek and shoulder.

Domingo Verna’s daughter – who is also the mom of his victim Brian – claims her dad is a domestic abuser who once beat her while she was pregnant.

The retired military veteran appeared before a judge on Wednesday and was released from prison.

The magistrate took ‘into account the penalty provided by law for this crime and the advanced age of the accused.’

Bahía Blanca prosecutor Chris Long told Argentine news station Todo Noticias that the grandfather could have done more to have prevented the killing and dismissed the shooting as a defensive tactic.

“He could have engaged in a totally different activity, such as calling 911, calling the police or calling a neighbor, rather than fully discharging the barrel of his revolver into his grandson’s body,” Long said.

Footage of the frantic events showed Brian Verna charging at his grandfather while his girlfriend, Aldana Soria, was dragged through the floor, clinging to his legs in an attempt to stop him.

Brian Verna swung a broomstick at his Domingo Verna and managed to get loose from Soria before he repeatedly punched him.

Soria subsequently rushed forward and was able to restrain her boyfriend.

Brian Verna returned a couple of hours later and started kicking down the door. His grandfather opened the door after the fourth attempt and shot him, sending him tumbling over a row of plants.

Domingo Verna walked out of the home and started talking with his Marta Verna before their daughter Mariel Verna ran over from her house and found her son lying on the ground.

Mariel Verna told Telefe Rosario that her father had a history of stalking her son and that the killing was premeditated because he closed the door to the residence.

‘Brian was harassed by his grandfather, I say that for sure. I experienced it on Thursday (June 9). Monday was the third time that he was waiting through the (surveillance) cameras to attack him, to claim him who knows what money he owes him,’ she said. ‘It was all masochism and masochism of ‘you owe me the money’ and with interest.’

She said her son was diagnosed with a mental illness at the age of six. He was treated by a neurologist in Buenos Aires before moving to Bahía Blanca, where the treatment continued throughout his teenagers.

Mariel Verna said her parents always dismissed that he was struggling with a mental condition and would not give him the medication whenever the cared after him.

‘My parents withdrew his medication because, according to them, he didn’t need it,’ Verna explained. ‘The fault that my son is like this was all mine. They always blamed me for it and they never assumed he was mentally ill.’

She told Todo Noticias that her father had a history of beating her mother as well as her and her siblings. She said that he once beat her while she was pregnant.

She acknowledged that Brian Verna had stopped taking his medicine two months ago and couldn’t force him to do so because he was an adult. She said she had to call the police for help on several occasions because of his aggressiveness towards her.

Her son and her father both were employed by the city parks department. She said Brian Verna sought a transfer to another parks department, but her father intervened so that her son ‘could remain working under his orders.’

‘My father didn’t say a word to me. With my own eyes, I heard how he shot him at close range,’ Mariel Verna said. ‘The girlfriend grabbed him so he wouldn’t go … (he) dragged her. My son left the bicycle stuck in the patio, he hurt himself so as not to hit my father.’
