Four-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Justin Houston is staying with the Baltimore Ravens on a one-year deal, the team announced Thursday.
Houston, 33, was a 15-game starter for the Ravens in 2021 but finished the season with just 4.5 sacks, the second lowest total of his career. Despite the lack of production, Baltimore hoped to retain Houston by applying the unrestricted free agent tender to the outside linebacker in May. The designation meant the Ravens would have exclusive negotiating rights with Houston if he didn’t sign with a new team before July 22.
That didn’t come to fruition, as Houston reached terms with Baltimore a couple weeks ahead of the deadline.
Houston was a third-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs. He racked up 78.5 sacks during his time in Kansas City, including a league-leading 22 sacks in 2014.
In 2019, Houston joined the Indianapolis Colts on a two-year, $24 million deal and recorded 19 sacks during his time with the team.
Over the course of his 11-year career, Houston has 102 sacks, 33rd most since sacks officially began being recorded in 1982. Von Miller, Chandler Jones and Cameron Jordan are the only three active players with more career sacks.
