Prop bets for Lightning vs. Rangers Eastern Conference Final Game 5

Estimated read time 5 min read

The only NHL series left for us to bet on is the Eastern Conference Final, and we’ll be seeing these teams a few more times with the series tied 2-2.

Tuesday’s attack of this series went very poorly, a point that feels worth acknowledgement. Still, work has been done to get on the right side of the ledger, and that begins with these plays tonight.

Chris Kreider point (-130 DK)

I initially had the Rangers team total at 2.5 (+115) as my play here, based on New York’s goal scoring average at home (4.22 per game) and the fact they’ve gone for three or more goals in every home game this postseason.

My fear of that outcome is the injury uncertainty around two of the Rangers’ top centers: Ryan Strome and Filip Chytil. Both players have been so crucial to New York’s offense in these playoffs, and their potential absence throws some of these averages out the window.

Thus, I’m pivoting to Chris Kreider. Funny enough, Kreider point (and Fox assist) were my initial plays before I decided to go to the Rangers team total. I’ve since pivoted back, so you’ve all bore witness to me running in a circle this morning.

I finally feel at home with Kreider to register a point here, and I actually like it even more if one or both of Strome/Chytil can’t go.

The pressure will be on this Rangers’ top line to generate scoring, something they’ve been quite adept at accomplishing.

Kreider has a point in six straight games (eight total), and has registered a point in seven of nine home games this postseason. I find this -130 price to be quite reasonable for someone as involved as Kreider.

Parlay: Mika Zibanejad & Ondrej Palat 2+ shots (+102 FD)

There’s not much we need to say about Zibanejad’s shots at this point. He has 2+ shots in all 18 playoff games this season, and has 19 total shots in four games this series. He would be a great ladder candidate, having gone for 5+ shots three times. Instead, we slide him down to his floor.

I’m pairing him with Ondrej Palat, who is coming off a monster three-point outing in Game 4. Palat has crossed the threshold of two shots in every game this series and seven of his past eight games. He’s been solid on the road as well, with 11 shots on goal in his past four away tilts.

New York is allowing nearly 40 shots per game at home, so I’m banking on plenty to go around tonight on the Lightning end.

Parlay: Nikita Kucherov & Steven Stamkos 3+ shots (+114 FD)

We stick with that idea and bet on the two Tampa studs to get three shots on net. Stamkos has reached three SOG in every game this series and 11 of his past 12 games.

Kucherov has 18 shots on goal in four games and has gone for 3+ in five of his past seven. The attempts are there, and I’m fine with this combination at three, particularly at plus-money.

Bonus Plays: Goal Scorers to look at tonight

We need to mix up the juju on these NHL pieces! Things are feeling a bit repetitive with similar looks each night, and I think we deserve to have some fun.

I want to flag a few value plays to score goals to give us a little extra to root for. Not going crazy on these, and I will be including these on my record. I’m placing .33u on each of the following, to bring the total risk to just under 1u.

Frank Vatrano goal (+330 CZR)

Vatrano has been operating with solid shot volume of late, averaging 4.5 shot attempts per game this series. He scored Game 1 but hasn’t since, and three of his four postseason goals this year have been in New York.

I do believe the Rangers can find the back of the net, so their lineup is a logical place to look for some goals.

It always helps to be skating on the top line alongside Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider, so here’s to them creating a scoring chance for Vatrano.

Artemi Panarin goal (+295 DK)

We load up one more Ranger in Artemi Panarin. Panarin has shot the puck far more frequently at home this postseason, averaging 6.4 attempts per game and finishing with 2+ shots on goal in every contest.

He’s also scored a goal at home in four of nine games in these playoffs, including Game 1. He scored last game as well, so there’s momentum building here.

If you watch the games, you see that Panarin prefers to do the creating for others, but with his linemate Ryan Strome banged up, I’m heading into this one with the belief that Panarin shoulders more of the shot responsibilities.

He’s a fine SOG option, as well.

Anthony Cirelli goal (+360 DK)

I want to ladder up Cirelli’s shots badly, but FanDuel continues to refuse offering him. It’s quite suspicious, and frustrating, so we take it out on their good pals DraftKings here and just bet him to find the back of the net.

Cirelli has four shots on goal in four of his last five games, and he averages 3.2 shots per game against the Rangers in six meetings this season.

Despite this volume, he has no goals to show for it. We’re certainly hoping for one of these many shots to sneak through Shesterkin tonight, this is a volume play.

Best of luck tonight, let’s get right on the ice and win some bets.
