PGA 2022: Travelers Championship betting preview

Another day, another top golfer joining LIV Golf. This time it is Brooks Koepka, probably the second-best golfer to join the rogue tour after Dustin Johnson

To be honest, I am kind of loving all of the fake outrage over all of this. Nobody ever discussed the future of the PGA Tour and how it might need to evolve. They thought they had a monopoly and acted like it. They were wrong.

I also think that all of this volatility in terms of who is in and out and what it means is going to be good for the betting markets (though not necessarily the sportsbooks). With new faces emerging and less data to work with overall there is going to be more variance and thus more opportunity for sharp handicappers.

Let’s get back to this week and the task at hand at the Travelers. This course is generally made to look easy by PGA-level talent so look for lots of low scores this weekend. It definitely feels like another event where we could get a surprise winner.

Bets to Consider

Brian Harman +4500

Harman has a couple of PGA wins under his belt, but it has been a while (none since 2017). I like the form he has shown in 2022 and the fact that he has played well at this event in the past – three top 10 finishes since 2015.

Webb Simpson Top 10 (+600)

This one takes a little courage because Simpson has not been great this season and his last top 10 was at the RSM Classic in 2021. He has been sharp on this course in the past though and we get a chance to buy low without going all-in for the win.

Davis Riley +3500

Shop around on Riley because I have seen some +4000 too. He is a young player still looking for his first PGA Tour win but the composition of the field helps out players on the come up. He also has three top 10 finishes in his last six events so he is playing some very good golf.

Jordan Spieth +2500

With players leaving the Tour, Spieth looks like a guy who could really benefit. He already has a win in 2022 and we know that his best golf is among the best in the world. He won the Travelers back in 2017 and a little course familiarity and confidence never hurts.

Seamus Power +4000

Not exactly a household name (yet) but he has a win on the Tour and his form of late includes three top 15 finishes in his last six outings. He also finished in the top 20 last year so a little confidence and a reduced field could go a long way.
