NYC straphanger dies after his PANTS get caught in the door of the Q train and he’s dragged along platform and onto the tracks

  • A passenger on the Q train in Brooklyn got caught in the door while exiting the train, dragging him along the station and onto the tracks
  • The unidentified man, believed to be in his 30’s, was pronounced dead early Thursday morning
  • Incidents involving people on NYC subway tracks have risen as the subways now have more people using them
  • In January, a woman was killed after a man pushed her onto the tracks at the Times Square station

A straphanger died on Thursday after his pants got caught in the door of a subway train in Brooklyn, dragging him across the platform and onto the tracks.

The passenger was exiting a northbound Q train at Brooklyn’s Avenue M stop at around 11.50pm on Wednesday when his pants and possibly his foot were caught in the door, according to the NYPD.

The man was dragged across the platform by the moving train and then thrown onto the tracks, where another train was arriving. The subway operator was able to stop the train before it hit the man.

The unidentified man, believed to be in his 30s, was then rushed by EMS to Maimonides Medical Center, where he died early Thursday morning.

The tragic incident is the latest subway-related death for New York City.

Early in the year, two people were shoved onto the tracks, including Michelle Alyssa Go, who was killed after being pushed onto the Times Square station track by a homeless man.

As per the MTA’s ‘Track Trespassing Task Force’ report, track intrusions have steadily risen over the past few years, resulting in more potential for injury and death.

According to the report, three quarters of track intrusions are voluntary, and the task force also found 29 encampments in subway tunnels that some New Yorkers use for shelter.

Transit crime has increased by 53.6 percent since this time last year – a figure which crystalizes how unsafe the subway has become.
