The Philadelphia 76ers aren’t the only NBA team in the Atlantic Division being investigated for alleged tampering.
Guard Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks agreed to a four-year, $104 million deal at the end of June as free agency kicked off. Last week, the 25-year-old was a guest on J.J. Redick’s “The Old Man & The Three” podcast and said he had planned to stay with the Dallas Mavericks ” for a long time” before he signed with the Knicks.
“Reports emerged days before June 30 that Brunson already had a deal in place with the Knicks,” Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes wrote. “In Brunson’s introductory news conference, the Knicks did not allow media to attend and only allowed in-house media employees to participate. Brunson’s dad, Rick, is an assistant coach with the Knicks. Leon Rose, the Knicks’ general manager, negotiated Brunson’s rookie contract with the Mavericks. Rick Brunson was Rose’s first client as an agent.”
Brunson averaged career-highs in points (16.3), rebounds (3.9) and assists (4.8) during the 2021-22 regular season, while shooting 50.2% from the field and 37.3% from three-point land in 79 games (61 starts). He contributed 21.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest in the playoffs across 18 games (all starts).
