Missing four-year-old found safe in Montana after TWO DAYS on his own outdoors in near-freezing temperatures

  • Ryker Webb, 4, was missing for two days in northwest Montana
  • After an extensive search, Ryker was found Sunday near Pine Ridge Road and South Fork Bull River Road, about 2.4 miles from where he went missing
  • The child was last seen in his yard playing with the family dog
  • A concerned neighbor called 911 and it was determined the child had already been missing for two hours at that time
  • Ryker was taken to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center for evaluation

A missing ‘hungry, thirsty and cold’ little boy was found safe after two days on his own in the near-freezing temperatures of the Montana wilderness.

Ryker Webb, 4, was reported missing Friday afternoon south of Troy, Montana after he was last seen playing with the family dog in his yard on the East side of Bull Lake.

Search efforts for the boy over the weekend were hampered by ‘very poor weather conditions which consisted of rain, low visibility, and low ceiling,’ the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.

Temperatures fell into the low 40s in Missoula, Montana on Saturday, with a quarter inch of rain hitting the ground, the sheriff’s wrote in a release.

But two days later, Ryker was located in good shape near Pine Ridge Road and South Fork Bull River Road in Sanders County, about 2.4 miles from where he went missing, the sheriff’s office said.

The child ‘was in good spirits and apparently healthy, although hungry, thirsty, and cold,’ according to the sheriff’s statement.

Ryker was taken to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center for evaluation.

Ryker was reported missing to the sheriff’s office around 4:53 p.m. when a concerned neighbor called 911. The boy had already been missing for two hours.

An initial clothing description provided to searchers turned out to be inaccurate, the sheriff’s office said. It was unknown what clothing or footwear the child was wearing.

Lincoln County Sheriff Darren Short told KREM that his family was very distraught during the search.

‘He and his dad were in the yard, the father went inside the home for a moment and when he went back outside, the child was gone,’ Short said on Saturday. ‘We have a very distraught family and a lot of concern over him.’

Short said on Saturday evening there were no indications of foul play.

Search teams were deployed and ATV riders, along with several drones, dog teams and a boat unit were on the lake over the weekend to aid in the search.

Two Montana National Guard helicopters joined search efforts along with drones from Flathead County and the Spokane Police Department.

However, the sheriff’s office said it was ‘extremely difficult to get the additional air assets into the Bull Lake valley due to very poor weather conditions which consisted of rain, low visibility, and low ceiling.’

Search teams were able to resume searching the area on Sunday when they located the child at Pine Ridge Road off South Fork Bull River Road in Sanders County and determined that it was Ryker, who was in ‘good spirits and apparently healthy, although hungry, thirsty, and cold.’

Ryker was transported to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center for evaluation
