Man brutally slashes his girlfriend, 49, across the face and back during the busy early morning rush in a New York City subway station: Attacker, who was arrested for attempted murder in March, remains on the loose

A woman was brutally slashed across the face and back by her boyfriend during the busy morning rush in a New York City subway station.

The attack was reported at 9:19 a.m. on Tuesday morning inside of Fulton Street Station in lower Manhattan.

Officers from the New York Police Department (NYPD) found a 49-year-old woman profusely bleeding from her head after what they called a ‘domestic dispute.’

She can be seen sitting on the ground in footage from the station, surrounded by huge splashes of blood with a towel to her face.

She was later taken outside and loaded into an ambulance by paramedics. 

The victim was brought to Bellevue Hospital, where she is believed to be in stable condition.

The suspect is a 50-year-old man, the NYPD told DailyMail.com, who used an ‘unknown sharp object’ to attack the woman.

Police know who the suspect is and where he lives, but he was not yet been caught.

He was also on parole at the time of the slashing, according to NBC New York

The suspect was previously arrested for assault in February and attempted murder in March. 

Details on the dispute are unknown as the investigation remains ongoing.

The slashing is the latest in a flurry of violent incidents that have taken place in New York City’s subway system under Mayor Eric Adams’ watch, despite his promise to lower local crime levels.

Crime happening in the subway system has surged percent in 2022 compared to 2021.

New York Mayor Eric Adams, who is a former NYPD officer, has often been vocal about eradicating crime in the city, but has been slammed for failure to take action.

According to NYPD data, while murders and shooting are respectively down 13 and 11 per cent from the same time period last year, overall crime is up nearly 38 per cent this year compared to June 2021.

Robberies have also gone up a staggering 40 per cent, while felony assaults have surged by 20 per cent and rapes by 15 per cent.

Transit crime, however, has increased the most at roughly 54 per cent – with 1,072 reported through June 19, 2022, compared to 695 reported at the same time last year.
