TLC has released a mid-season trailer for Welcome to Plathville.

The footage depicts plenty of interesting action, including the long-awaited reunion between Kim Plath and her son, Ethan…

… but one thing stands out above all else in this video:

Proof that the marriage between Kim and Barry Plath truly is over.

On Tuesday, Kim and Barry confirmed to the public that they were going their separate ways after 24 years as husband and wife.

“After considerable thought and discussion, we have decided to end our marriage,” said Kim and Barry in a statement to People Magazine.

“While this was not an easy decision, we know it’s the best choice for both of us.

“We have been through many highs and lows in our 24 years of marriage and as we navigate this new chapter in our lives, we will co-parent our amazing children.”

In the aforementioned preview for future Welcome to Plathville episodes, Kim and Barry sit down for a challenging conversation.

“Once I realized that you were not really loving me for who I am, that’s not a marriage I want to save,” Kim tells her estranged spouse.

Barry then adds, in simple and sad terms: “The relationship is D.O.A.”, which stands for Dead On Arrival.

Over the previous few Welcome to Plathville installments, Kim and Barry talked candidly about the difficulties in their relationship — both with each other and also via individual confessionals.

At one point, Barry sounded hopeful.

“There was this whole issue of just taking her for granted, and it was a real big wake-up,” he said, for example, adding:

“Looking back on my relationship, I think I just missed lots of opportunities to show Kim I love her…

“In my mind, I’m like I want to make this work, so I’m like, ‘Life is full of mistakes, and let’s see what we can do second chance-wise.”

Alas.

In this mid-season teaser, it appears as if those chances have dried up.

At another point in the video, Kim speaks with her daughter, Lydia, who tries to argue that her mom must let her faith lead the way.

However Kim, who initiated the split with Barry, defends herself by noting how that’s not always the case. There’s a practical element at play here.

“When you marry a man, do you care if he loves you?” Kim asks her 18-year-old daughter, who stares back in confusion.

Seems to say it all right there, doesn’t it?

Kim and Barry share the following children:

Moriah and Ethan Plath, 24; Hosanna Plath; Micah Plath; Lydia Plath; Isaac Plath; Amber Plath; Cassia Plath; and Mercy Plath.

They also had a son, Joshua, who died at 17 months old.

Welcome to Plathville airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on TLC.
