Kate Middleton and William launch plan for ‘global visibility’

Prince William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales, want to be “more global”, a source has claimed ahead of the royals’ trip to the States. The two senior royals will be in Boston on December 2 for the second award ceremony of the Earthsot Prize, the environmental contest launched by William in October 2020.

This trip, the source claimed, is part of the Waleses’ plan to become “more visible” outside of Britain, where they are already much loved by the public.

The insider told Us Weekly magazine: “They want to be more global or at least more openly visible to the rest of the world.”

This trip across the Atlantic, they added, will also give Kate and William the chance to thank Americans for the warmth shown to the Firm following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in early September.

They said: “The outpouring of support and sympathy that was sent to the royals from across the Atlantic Ocean was immense. It touched William and Kate and the entire Royal Family deeply.”

Prince William announced Boston would be the city hosting the event in July, on the 53rd anniversary of the moon landing delivered by US President John F. Kennedy.

There are several links between the Prize and President Kennedy, as Earthshot is openly inspired by the Moonshot speech delivered by the late politician in the 1960s, when he set a 10-year goal to place a man on the moon.

Similarly, the Prince of Wales launched a 10-year project to inspire and promote innovative ideas aimed at saving planet earth from the devastating effects of air and ocean pollution and climate change.

Moreover, President Kennedy was born in Brookline, a town part of the Boston metropolitan area.

The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation is to play an important role at the upcoming award ceremony – where five winners will receive £1million each to scale and develop their ideas – as it is the host partner alongside Boston Mayor Michelle Wu.

Earlier this month, the Prince signalled preparations ahead of the glitzy event are fully underway as held a virtual meeting with Ms Wu.

William was meant to travel Stateside in September to attend the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit but, as it took place shortly after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the Prince of Wales cancelled his appearance.

Nevertheless, he addressed the conference with a pre-recorded video message, the first since the death of his grandmother, during which he paid tribute to the late sovereign saying she would have been “delighted” to hear about the event, as protecting the environment was a cause “close to her heart”.

He also said: “During this time of grief, I take great comfort in your continued enthusiasm, optimism and commitment to the Earthshot Prize and what we are trying to achieve.

“Protecting the environment was of course close to my grandmother’s heart, and I know she would be delighted to hear about this event and the support you are all giving our Earthshot Prize finalists, the next generation of environmental pioneers.

“Together in this room are the people and organisations who will help us achieve our Earthshot mission – to rejuvenate our planet within this current decade.”

Both he and Kate, the heir to the throne concluded, “are so excited to be coming to Boston in December, and we look forward to seeing you all very soon”.

Kate and Prince William travelled only twice to the States – first in 2011 and again in 2014.
