June Shannon is known by the nickname “Mama.”

Heck, she even anchors a reality show that begins with this moniker.

And yet, based on a recent court ruling, there’s now some major irony associated with the term.

How come?

Because June Shannon is no longer a mama; not in the legal sense of the term, anyway.

A few weeks ago, Shannon lost custody of he youngest child, Alana Thompson, and she lost this custody to her second youngest child, Lauryn.

Alana (a former child beauty pageant contestant who helped her mom rise to small screen fame via the reality show “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo”) had been living with her sibling for years… ever since June basically fell into a massive drug problem and abandoned her kids.

Shannon, remember, was arrested for cocaine possession in March 2019.

She spent the next several months living out of hotel rooms with then-boyfriend Geno Doak and spending all of her money on drugs.

Shannon now says she’s been sober for over a year, and she spoke late last week with Page Six’s Virtual Reali-tea to help elucidate her situation — both personally and as a parent.

“Alana made that choice to stay in that environment,” June said of Lauryn’s guardianship while promoting the family’s WE tv reality series, Mama June: Road to Redemption.

“People don’t understand the custody thing. It’s not like somebody lost custody.

“In the state of Georgia, you do temporary guardianship every year and [Alana] had been with [Lauryn] in my addiction.

“Well, at the age of 12, you’re able to make your choice.”

June Shannon... Sober!

June is a mother of four.

Along with Alana and Lauryn, she gave birth to a 25-year old daughter named Jessica and a 27-year old daughter named Anna.

Shannon told the aforementioned outlet that she has a “good” relationship with all her children.

Most notably, in the wake of this recent custody decision, June insists that she talks to Alana often.

Said June to Page Six:

“Alana’s fixin’ to be 17 in just a couple months.

“So honestly, me and Pumpkin sat down and was just like, ‘Hey, it’s not like I don’t see Alana, it’s not like I don’t talk to her.’

“Because I do. I do see her, I do talk to her. We do communicate. So it wasn’t like any difference.

“The only difference is she’s not sitting right here beside me in my home every day.”

Lauryn was first awarded temporary guardianship over Alana in August 2019 — with permission from her father, Mike Thompson — after June was arrested on drug possession charges that year with Doak.

June, who actually just got married to some guy named Justin Stroud, says she’s grateful that her kids are caring for each other.

“I’m very thankful for her because the situation could have been a lot different,” she told Page Six.

“Pumpkin stepping up, I’m very grateful because it could have turned into a bad situation.

“At the time Alana went to go live with Pumpkin at the beginning, I couldn’t even take care of my own self — more or less take care of anybody else.”
