Josh Duggar in Federal Prison: Why Won’t Officials Reveal His New Location?

Last week, Josh Duggar was finally transferred to federal prison.

Duggar had been residing in a county jail in Fayetteville, Arkansas ever since being convicted on child pornography charges back in December of 2021.

Insiders say he’s adapted surprisingly well to life behind bars.

But Josh’s situation is about to change drastically.

And he might soon realize that a county jail in Arkansas is a far cry from a federal prison in Texas.

Currently, we’re not sure exactly where Josh’s new home is, but we know that he’s now a resident of the Lone Star state.

The judge at Josh’s sentencing hearing recommended that he be placed in one of two federal correctional institutions: one in Seagoville, Texas, the other in Texarkana.

There are some crucial differences between the two facilities, and even though it’s been nearly 72 hours since Josh’s transfer, we still don’t know where he ended up.

There are many possible reasons for this.

The secrecy could be for Josh’s safety, or prison officials might be wary of an onrush of media scrutiny.

Whatever the case, Josh’s current location is known only to his family, and the guards and inmates who will serve as his community for the next 151 months.

At least the world can breathe a bit easier knowing that Josh is now locked away in a federal facility.

As for the differences between Texarkana and Seagoville — they’re subtle, but crucial.

Seagoville has a nationally-renowned treatment center for sex offenders, and it was reportedly Josh’s top choice.

Now, Josh still maintains that he’s innocent, so he would never publicly admit that he might benefit from treatment.

But a high percentage of Seagoville inmates are sex offenders, and the facility is reportedly one of the best in the country at ensuring their safety.

Inmates who have been convicted of preying on children are usually at the greatest risk of violence and harassment from other prisoners.

So Josh might have been drawn to the idea that he would be slightly safer at Seagoville than at any other federal facility.

But the location has its drawbacks, as well …

Obviously, Josh will be far from home at either facility, but Texarkana is considerably closer to northwest Arkansas, where his family lives.

So it would be easier for his wife and parents to visit him there.

But Josh might be more concerned with his own safety than with the idea of Jim Bob spending an extra couple of hours behind the wheel.

It might be a few more days before transfer documents reveal which facility will serve as Josh’s new home.

But whatever the case, his current location will serve as his home for at least the next decade.

Josh’s family will probably continue to put up a brave facade and pretend that they’re optimistic about his appeal.

But the 34-year-old’s privacy will likely be less well-guarded at either Texarkana or Segoville, and the truth about his mental state and coping abilities is sure to come out soon.
