Jets’ Robert Saleh: WR Elijah Moore ‘not quitting on anybody’ after trade request

New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh has again told reporters that wide receiver Elijah Moore is on track to play against the New England Patriots this Sunday despite Moore’s desire to find a new club.

“We’ve had talks, he’s good,” Saleh said of Moore on Wednesday, per the Jets’ official website. “We’re all good and he’s going to go out and do what he does and see if we can get him the ball and make a few plays.”

Moore requested a trade before the game at the Denver Broncos and didn’t play in the 16-9 victory that improved the Jets to 5-2 on the season. Saleh confirmed Monday that the 22-year-old was back with the team and assured media members on Wednesday the receiver is committed to giving his best to the Jets versus the 3-4 Patriots.

“Is there frustration? Was there frustration? Is there frustration? There probably still is, in terms of what he wants his role to be from a ball production standpoint, but I don’t think it changes, like he’s not quitting on anybody,” Saleh explained. “He’s not out there dogging it, he’s not sitting on his helmet, he’s not skipping and holding out and faking injuries, he’s not doing any of that. He just wants to contribute, so the question of whether he’s locked in in meetings, and doing what he needs to do in practice, that’s a non-question to me, he’s going to be fine.”

Saleh flashed his humorous side when he was asked if Moore still wants to be moved before next Tuesday’s trade deadline.

“I don’t know, I didn’t ask him,” Saleh responded.

Moore’s initial request came after he used Twitter to complain about a lack of targets following a win at the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 16. Thus far this season, the second-year pro has recorded 16 catches for 203 yards and zero touchdowns in six games.

Saleh previously said trading Moore before the deadline is “not an option.”
