Drake sends fans into a frenzy as he announces surprise release of new album Honestly, Nevermind

Drake thrilled his 113M Instagram fans on Thursday, with the announcement that he is releasing a new album titled Honestly, Nevermind at midnight.

The rap superstar, 35, posted the cover art for the project, which will be his seventh studio album, following last year’s release of Certified Lover Boy.

‘7th studio album “HONESTLY, NEVERMIND” out at midnight,’ the Canadian hitmaker captioned the photo, simply featuring the name of the new album.

The album comes as a complete surprise, with the musician doing no prior promotion for it.

The exciting announcement was liked by nearly 2 million of his followers within the first two hours, including former rap rival Kanye West, 45.

The hip-hop star – who has sold more than 37 million albums worldwide – will most likely discuss the new album during tonight’s premiere episode of his SiriusXM radio show Table For One.

The program will air an hour before the album’s release, at 11 p.m. ET on Sound 42.

The swiftness of the new project might be partly due to the God’s Plan star’s reported recent singing of a $400 million recording contract earlier this year.

On May 3rd Sir Lucian Grainge – head of Universal Music Group – confirmed that Drake signed a massive ‘expansive, multi-faceted deal’ with the label, as reported by Variety

The deal ‘encompasses recordings, publishing, merchandise and visual media projects.’

Drake’s Certified Lover Boy, was released via his own imprint OVO Sound under license to Republic Records (owned by UMG).

The album landed him a nomination for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance at the 2022 Grammy Awards.

However, the artist – who’s won four Grammys in the past – withdrew himself from running for the awards.

The chart-topper has been known to be critical of the Grammys, and in a response to a Grammy snub of The Weeknd in 2020, he wrote on Instagram urging for a new platform.

‘I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after.’

He added, ‘This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come.’
