The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without a big piece of their bullpen for the rest of the season.
Right-handed reliever Daniel Hudson suffered a torn ACL on Friday night against the Atlanta Braves, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed after the game.
Entering the game in the eighth inning, Hudson suffered the injury against the first batter he faced Friday night.
Facing Atlanta’s Ronald Acuna Jr., Hudson induced a slow chopper up the third-base line. When Hudson attempted to charge off the mound after the ball, his left leg appeared to give way as he crumbled to the ground in obvious pain.
Hudson posted a 2-3 record for the Dodgers this season with a 2.22 ERA in 24.1 innings.
The injury may signal the end for Hudson in Los Angeles.
The 35-year-old signed a one-year, $7 million free-agent deal with Los Angeles last offseason. The deal includes a team option for $6.5 million in 2023.
Losing Hudson was another bit of bad news for the Dodgers pitching staff on Friday. Los Angeles also placed starting pitcher Andrew Heaney on the 15-day injured list with a shoulder strain and inflammation.
