You never want to see a player go down with an injury, but injuries that happen in the preseason seem to hurt even worse. That’s a figurative pain the Dallas Cowboys are feeling today as their new wide receiver acquisition, James Washington, is feeling literal pain in his foot.

ESPN is reporting that according to its sources, the Cowboys fear Washington suffered a foot fracture during training camp on Monday.

The report comes complete with a video from training camp that shows Washington running a deep route down the sideline while covered by superstar cornerback Trevon Diggs. The pass to Washington was broken up by Diggs, but the corner did create significant contact in the process. Washington went to the ground before slowly getting up and unsuccessfully hobbling away.

Washington, who the Cowboys signed to a one-year deal this past offseason, was ultimately carted off the field.

Depending on the outcome of the testing on Washington’s foot, Dallas’ already thin receiving room could get even thinner. Michael Gallup is largely expected to be the No. 2 for Dallas behind CeeDee Lamb after the team traded Amari Cooper to the Browns, but he’s not expected to be ready to go by Week 1 after suffering an ACL tear his past January.
