Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder again declined an invitation to testify in front of the House Oversight Committee on June 22 regarding the investigation into the team’s toxic workplace culture.
According to Front Office Sports, the Oversight Committee offered to make “additional accommodations” to ensure Snyder could testify, even allowing him to testify remotely. Snyder’s lawyers previously said the embattled team owner had a “longstanding business conflict” to attend to outside of the country that could not be rescheduled, although it was later revealed he is attending an awards ceremony in France.
Snyder’s team also requested copies of documents the committee would use for questioning. Per ESPN, chairwoman Carolyn Maloney stated in a six-page letter that the committee is not obligated to provide those documents but would do so if Snyder agreed to testify.
Karen Patton Seymour, Snyder’s attorney, said Monday that “Mr. Snyder’s business conflict was scheduled long before then and cannot be rescheduled.”
She added, “The Snyders and the Team remain fully willing to cooperate with the Committee…”
A spokesperson for the Oversight Committee reacted to the second declined invitation by saying Snyder’s refusal to testify implies he has “something to hide.”
