The blows keep coming.
After starting the season with an 0-4-2 record, the Vancouver Canucks announced that defensemen Quinn Hughes and Travis Dermott will both be out week-to-week.
Forward Brock Boeser will also miss Monday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Hughes will miss time with a lower-body injury, while Dermott is out with a concussion. Boeser’s injury is undisclosed.
Hughes is second in team scoring with five assists in as many games. He didn’t play in the team’s 5-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday either. When healthy, Hughes is one of Vancouver’s most impactful players, even during the club’s dreadful start to the season. Any missed games leaves the team with a huge hole in the lineup, and that’s magnified when it’s long-term.
Dermott, 25, has yet to play this season after suffering a concussion during a preseason contest. Dermott was acquired from Toronto last year, tallying two points in 17 games in a depth role with the club.
Boeser, 25, has four assists in six games with the Canucks this year. He has recorded at least 45 points in his five full-time seasons dating back to 2017-18 but has missed time with injuries in nearly all of them.
Earlier Monday, the Canucks announced that defenseman Tucker Poolman was placed on injured reserve after leaving Vancouver’s Oct. 15 game against Philadelphia. Guillaume Brisebois was called up to fill his spot.
The Canucks also confirmed that forward Riley Stillman will miss Monday’s contest with an undisclosed injury.
The Canucks are the lone team without a win this season, sitting last in the Pacific Division with just two points. The Canucks still have their first-round pick for 2023, so if they can’t figure out how to turn things around before long, they’ll be in serious contention for Connor Bedard.
