Biden says the ‘forces that led to January 6 remain at work’ but admits he didn’t watch hearing

President Joe Biden on Friday broke away from a speech on what he calls his top priority – confronting inflation – to highlight the House January 6 hearings and forces that he described as threatening democracy with a ‘dagger.’

Biden made the comments at the top of a speech on inflation and supply chain issues, staged in the Port of Los Angeles to illustrate supply chain actions.

But he immediately brought up the issue that is captivating Washington – following press reports about staff grumbling about travel speeches that don’t always get picked up due to low news content. 

He called the events of Jan. 6 ‘one of the darkest chapters in our nation’s history,’ and highlighted the ‘brutal attack on law enforcement,’ following jarring testimony from Capitol Police Officer Caroline Edwards, who sustained a traumatic brain injury fending off protesters Jan. 6th. She has still not returned to work. 

‘It’s important to American people understand what truly happened. And to understand that the same forces that led January 6 to remain at work today,’ President Joe Biden said on a trip to Los Angeles, hours after the House January 6 committee staged a prime-time hearing

‘It’s important to American people understand what truly happened. And to understand that the same forces that led January 6 to remain at work today,’ said Biden, who once again bashed the ‘MAGA gang’ and the ‘MAGA crowd,’ after spending the start of his presidency trying to avoid talking about predecessor Donald Trump.

‘Now the battle for the soul of America has been far from won,’ Biden said, referencing his campaign theme. ‘And I know together and I mean this, we can unite and defend this nation, Democrat and Republican, and allow no one to place a dagger at the throat of our democracy,’ Biden said.

‘That’s what those hearings are all about. You’re going to hear a lot more.’

Then he allowed: ‘I didn’t get to watch them last night because I was doing other business. But I tell you what, there’s a lot lot going on.’

Biden made the comments at the top of a prepared speech on inflation and economic issues in L.A.

‘The same forces that led January 6 to remain at work today,’ said Biden. The panel said former President Donald Trump’s actions led to the violence Jan. 6

He spoke aboard the decommissioned USS Iowa, a battleship commissioned in 1943 that served in World War II, Korea and Cold War. 

Biden’s comments came after the president conducted business at the Summit of the Americas he is hosting in L.A., but otherwise sought to avoid upstaging the scripted prime-time hearing being put on by the House January 6 Committee.

At the event, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) sketched out what she called a seven-part plan by Trump to sew doubts about election fraud, force out officials he deemed disloyal, and pressure election officials and Vice President Mike Pence as part of his election overturn effort.

‘January 6 was the culmination of an attempted coup, a brazen attempt, as one rioter put it shortly after Jan. 6, to overthrow the government,’ said Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) who chairs the panel. ‘The violence was no accident. It represents Trump’s last stand, most desperate chance to halt the transfer of power.’ 

Trump on Friday once again blasted the hearings, and hit back at testimony by his daughter Ivanka Trump and former AG Bill Barr, who testified he told Trump his own claims of election fraud were ‘bull****.’ Ivanka testified that she agreed with Barr’s doubts. 

‘I respect Attorney General Barr. So I accepted what he said — was saying,’ she testified. 

‘Ivanka Trump was not involved in looking at, or studying, Election results. She had long since checked out and was, in my opinion, only trying to be respectful to Bill Barr and his position as attorney general (he sucked),’ Trump wrote on Truth Social, around 12 hours after part of her testimony was revealed. 

‘It was a shocking turn of events. Trump and his daughter were known for their close relationship and she was seen as his favorite child. She served as an adviser in his White House and Trump often said she could be president one day.
