2022 Philadelphia Eagles win totals: Eagles are rising

There is a lot to like about the Philadelphia Eagles coming into this season. (I am pretty sure I have written that before.)

I like them to claim the NFC East, and playing in that weak division gives them a chance to bank some easy wins. They are also “settled” at the quarterback position with the very athletic Jalen Hurts. No, he is not Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray or Russell Wilson, but he combines a lot of those traits. And most importantly, he wins.

The move to get top receiver AJ Brown is going to help him, and so is the fact that the Eagles can and actually do run the ball. Hurts has a ceiling, but with this team, the Eagles don’t have to put it all on him. Brown and last year’s top pick, wideout DeVonta Smith, are great run-after-the-catch guys.

I also like the way the Eagles added to their defense. Bringing in linebacker Haason Reddick immediately bumps up their pass rush, and they drafted two players from Georgia’s national championship defense. Interior lineman Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean improve the athleticism of the unit and its ability to make big plays.

Under 9.5 (+110)

Best Bet: Over 9.5

The Eagles begin on the road, but they still have a great chance to get off to a good start against Detroit. (See an earlier article where I highlighted the Eagles in this spot.) I am not buying into the Lions at all. It is more than that, though. In the first four games, they are also taking on Washington and Jacksonville. I think Philadelphia will be favored in five of their first six games.

The bye week comes in Week 7, which might be a little earlier than preferred, but with games against Houston and Washington in Weeks 9 and 10, the Eagles have a great shot to be something like 7-2 over the first half of the season.

After that, it is easy to find another three wins on the schedule over the season, probably more than that.

The best bets for those three wins are the two games they have in the second half against the New York Giants, and a trip to Chicago also looks like a great spot to add another easy victory. Their home game against New Orleans in the second to last week of the season looks really good too.

I am looking for the Eagles to go 5-1 against their division, and that gives them ample opportunity to get double-digit wins. Not only is the NFC East a week group, but the Eagles have just one game on the schedule against teams from the AFC West and NFC West, the two most challenging divisions.

I don’t like Philly to win the NFC over teams like the Los Angeles Rams or Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but during the regular season, they are going to have a lot of success.
